Editorial Policy

This policy explains how NewsNow Tamil gathers, checks and publishes news. It applies to everything we publish on our website and social media accounts.

1. Editorial responsibility

Our Editor-in-Chief, Tharshika Selvachandren, is responsible for all content published by NewsNow Tamil. Our editor, Mohammed Ashrif, reviews stories before publication.

2. Accuracy

• We check facts before we publish. Where possible, we confirm information with more than one reliable source.
• We clearly separate news from opinion. Opinion pieces are labelled as opinion.
• When a story is developing and details are not yet confirmed, we say so.

3. Sources

• We name our sources whenever we can.
• We use anonymous sources only when the information is important to the public and the source could be harmed if named. The editor must know who the source is.
• We credit other media when we use their reporting, photos or videos.

4. Independence and fairness

• Our editorial decisions are not influenced by advertisers, sponsors, political parties or owners’ business interests.
• When we report allegations against a person or organisation, we try to contact them and include their response.
• We do not publish content that promotes hatred or violence against any community, religion or group.

5. Advertising and sponsored content

Paid or sponsored content is clearly marked as “Sponsored” or “Advertisement” so readers can tell it apart from our journalism.

6. Privacy and sensitive stories

• We respect people’s privacy unless there is a clear public interest.
• We do not identify victims of sexual offences, or children involved in crime or tragedy, without strong justification.
• We take care when reporting on death, suicide and accidents, and avoid graphic images that do not serve the story.

7. Corrections

When we make a mistake, we correct it as quickly as possible. Corrected stories carry a note at the end explaining what was changed and when. We do not quietly delete or change important facts.

8. Complaints and right of reply

If you think a story is inaccurate or unfair, or you want to respond to something we published, contact us:

• Email: tamil@newsnow.lk
• WhatsApp: +94 77 182 1699

Please include the link to the story and explain the problem. We will reply within 3 business days.

9. Updates to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version is always published on this page.
